3 Ways To Find A Good Coin Dealer

Edward Adams

Whether you are buying antique coins to invest in or because you are adding to your existing coin collection, you need to work with a coin dealer that you can trust. You want to be sure that your coin is authentic and worth what you paid. So, what can you do to ensure that you are working with a trustworthy coin dealer?

Research

The first thing that you can do is do some research on the coin dealer. You are looking for any complaints against that particular dealer as well as any general ratings. Keep in mind that anyone who has been in business for a while will have unhappy customers, so you will likely see some negative or low reviews. The important thing to remember at that point is how many complaints or poor reviews there are and if the same things are being mentioned over and over. Seeing the same comments in complaints or negative reviews is a red flag. It's the opposite when it comes to good reviews. If people repeatedly praise the same things in reviews, that can be an excellent sign. It shows that the dealer is doing something right and is highly trusted in the business.

Experience

The longer the dealer has been in business, the more they will know about their product and the more they will need to help you. You can find out the dealer's experience by asking them a few questions. One of the questions you should ask is if the dealer is a member of a recognized coin dealer's association and how long they have been a member of that group. If you are talking to a dealer at a show, you should ask if they only sell at shows or if they also have a physical storefront.

Disputes

If you have a dispute with the dealer, you need to find out how you can handle that dispute. This is where working with a dealer who is a member of a reputable and recognizable national coin or professional group. Some of those groups have an arbitration process. If you have a complaint, you can go through that arbitration process to devise a solution that works for you.

Buying coins can be a rewarding thing to do, whether for investment or collection purposes. You need to work with someone reputable to get your coins to be sure you are getting authentic coins.
